About "Silver Marilyn"
'Fantasy Love' is a contemporary re-interpretation of 'Pop Art' (a style prevalent in the 60's and 70's, typified by the works of artists like Andy Warhol). This era of Pop Art explored and was concerned with ideas of mass production, industry and the flat, plastic quality of products created in the age of mechanism and 'mass-production'.
With the advent of the digital or information age in which we now live, it seems that the times of flat, inpersonal consumerism have passed and we have emerged into a period where customisation, personalisation, individual expression and, yep, 'blinging-out' one's style has become possible and more or less the norm for many.
The title of the work comes from a quote by Andy Warhol:"Fantasy love is much better than reality love. Never doing it is very exciting. The most exciting attractions are between two opposites that never meet."
I thought it would be interesting to use one of Warhols icon flat, graphic prints of Marilyn Monroe as the basis for highly rendered oil painting which suggests dimension, light and shadow quaility, surface texture and form, echoing the sentiment in Warhols quote which implies a much deeper and profound relationship that society develops with the relatively flat persona presented by celebrity through the media and often in their fictitious works.

"The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge, but creativity"
- Albert Einsten
My relationship with painting is an ever-evolving one, though it's proven in most part to be about exploring the potential of the medium, experimenting with ideas and imagery. It's about having fun and creating objects of beauty, captivation - and occassionally to create works which inspire contemplation and fresh ways of thinking and seeing - to put out into the world for others to enjoy.
My painting style could be called eclectic, varied and playful and I approach each work in a working style that I feel will either satisfy, engage or challenge the viewer, and which will do the subject of the work the greatest justice depending on which direction the working process end up going in.
