About "Soulful Harmonies"
This work came to me after spending many hours in curio shops doing research for an African art importing company based in the USA. The mask inspiration came from masks hand-carved in the African countries of Malawi and Zimbabwe. Standing in front of the painting you can almost imagine a deep, African sounding harmony emerging from it.
Claire is an artist residing in the small town of Hilton in the Kwa-Zulu Natal midlands. Most of her works have an undeniably African feel to them. Claire has a keen interest in photography and over the years has built up a large resource pool of images to inspire her paintings. These photos include African wildlife, landscapes, cultural aspects of Africa (both traditional and of the "new", emerging culture) and San paintings from her years of hiking in the Drakensberg. She feels very strongly against "copying" photos and therefore her paintings are all unique and her own interpretation of the subject matter. The San paintings however are scenes copied as close to the original as possible.
