Jaims Art was born in Durban, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa in 1960. Jaims works predominantly in the medium of oil but has recently started using watercolours as well. Jaims is a mostly self-taught artist, although she regularly takes on-line courses.
Her work is available on several on-line art galleries as well as select local galleries. She lives and works in Cape Town.
Jaims initially started out painting solely landscapes and seascapes which rarely displayed any form of human life, but her fascination with people of all walks of life has drawn her into painting people on the street, portraiture, and of recent an erotic series which she will be exhibiting soon. She always looks for the light and dark of the human soul to portray in paint. She will often study the movements and habits of seemingly tormented souls and try and bring out the light in them, similarly observing the apparent pristine nature of some, steadily gaining insight into the darker side of their nature. She doesn't believe there are any saints nor absolute sinners, although it is often what people try and hide about themselves that is most visible. Her erotic series is based on this, and sometimes portrayed as it is, but at times it is the thoughts of people that she has painted.
