About "Sulphur Rising"
Whilst travelling through Yellowstone Park the tour guide took us to a site of many caldera. These boiling hot natural springs coming deep from within the Earth are surrounded by deposits of chemicals. The waters are a clear turquoise blue looking very inviting but are truly deadly. All the colours are absolutely magnificent and so pure.
Painting and drawing was first introduced to me at a young age by my father who had attended art school and also loved to paint. My first paintings followed the "old school" style where the picture was a likeness of what was visually seen. This, however, was too restrictive and at the age of 55 and semi retired I was able to set up a studio at home. This enabled me to express my feelings and love of colour more freely. Now there are not enough hours in a day to put all my ideas on canvas. Mostly my paintings start as an idea formed from nature or natural occurence but once started the colours and shapes take on a life of their own. There is nothing more exciting in the World than a blank canvas, paints and free time.
