About "The Calling"

'The Calling' is a work based on a still frame from video footage taken of members of the SAP Crime Prevention Unit taken at an abandoned railway station just South of Johannesburg city.

At the time I was interested in creating works which explored aspects of certain working professions, such as the South African Police. Because professions such as those found in the various units of the South African Policeforce are immensely far from the world of art, I found it interesting to chat to individuals in such professions and see what, if anything, art meant to them, experiencing the extreme, harsh, often brutal experiences they might with every working day.
