About "The Gambler"

I tried to capture an almost dreamlike [bisar] feeling when painting this picture. The vibrant colours e.g. red, blue, yellow and purple
symbolize the life of gambling, drinking, smoking and women in the background. In real life he is gambling with his own life. The gambler's eyes are hollow [like two coins] and he dont look human. He can be a ghost [of the person he used to be] or an animal in a suit like the man in the front[stripes]. The women in the background is haunting him. This is the life of a real gambler seen throuh my eyes.

About Elsa

Elsa Oosthuizen

I prefer working with oil on canvas and create my art work mainly from my imagination without a lot of preparation. By doing so, I replace my emotions with form, line and colour, spontaneous from the hart and without much realism.
I was also greatly inspired by artists such as Van Gogh, Eduard Munch and Picasso.
