About "The Nightingale"
At one time I had some trouble with my voice and I saw the image of having ones voice being "chained-up" and the "nightingale" on the outside. But after I finished the work a so much deeper meaning started to surface. The image of the Nightingale (Luscinia megarhyncho) is regularly found in classic literature and music.
I live in a small town in the heart of the Free State where life is slower and more tranquil. I sit and paint with my feet in the sun, my Jack Russell, Carli sleeping on the studio floor and the birds in the garden chirping away. Growing up with mom (entrepreneur) and dad (artist) I have all the support and inspiration I need to chase ideas and dreams. I love to sing and write poetry and don’t have enough time for all my schemes. My ideas for paintings come from music lyrics, philosophical questions and a mixture of numerology, astrology and symbolism. I love colour and drama in my work. I believe life must be LIVED and LOVED.
