About "The View"

This is the view I am blessed to see every day. On the left is Hangklip and the mountains behind Gordon's Bay, and on the right is the mountains behind Simon's Town, leading towards Cape Point. These moountains surround Vals Bay.

The light house is my version of the Roman Rock light house, whose light shines into my studio by night. The yacht club races around it on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and I love watching them.

Who can resist the temptation to sit down and watch it all, while having a cup of tea?

In this painting I also experimented with colour a bit,by painting the left tree in cool colours and the right one in warm hues. According to me the left tree should seems to be further away, although it is really the closest one. But that's just my opinion!

About Marie

Marie Prinsloo

I am privileged to live in beautiful Simon's Town, together with my husband Stefan and our two children.

After completing my B.A.Fine Arts degree at the University of Stellenbosch, we married and lived in Gauteng, Belgium and Holland, before moving here. I was inspired to explore my love of colour after seeing an exhibition of Van Gogh's work in Amsterdam. The Post Impressionists, Fauvist's and Naive artists, continue to influence my paintings.

I love using thick layers of paint to create movement and depth. My paintings are an expression of the joy and hope I feel being surrounded by beauty.

More of my work can be viewed in the Chameleon Gallery(Kalk Bay), Bay Gallery(Langebaan), Stone Fish Gallery(Paternoster)and Dixon-Reed(Simon's Town). I take part in many exhibitions and also give monthly art classes.

Although buyers are free to frame my paintings, there is no need, as I extend the composition to the sides of the box canvas I paint on. May you have a happy day!
