In my abstract art I allow the development of the painting dictate the eventual outcome. I decide however from the outset what I wish to convey to the viewer. Mostly I like to paint my interpretation of regrowth, survival, rebirth and the duality of existence. When one plays in the waves, the tranquil bits are under the wave. If a wave knocks one off your feet, there is turmoil underneath. The ocean is the birthplace of many lifeforms. Sometimes one has to dive deep into your soul to avoid the turmoils of life and to grow.
When I create I am in my happy space. Indigenous plants, especially those endemic to the Eastern Cape, always feature in my work. I think my ancestors where trees. I tend to work much more in mixed media lately. Drawings are becoming more prolific than paintings.
