About "Where have all the flowers gone?"

In 1966, Alvera's daughter, Doreen was killed in a car accident. From that time, Alvera never cut a flower or any living plant. She believed that they felt pain in the same way as humans do. It was only after Alvera started art lessons in 2004 that she began to express the pain and the grief that she had felt all those years since Doreen died. This picture was Alvera's way of healing herself and letting go of the pain that she had carried all those years. As a painting it is a whimsical reflection of how important plants are and how easily we can hurt or damage them. As a picture, it is a good picture to hang in an area where you may want to sit and just reflect on your own life. This is suitable for a meditation room or a sanctuary for peace and wholeness.

About Alvera

Alvera Walker

Alvera Walker passed away in Feb 2008 at the age of 82. She started painting at 62 when she joined a local art club in Port Alfred. Within a year she was selling potboilers at the local coffee shops. Alvera loved painting the wildlife big five, animals which she grew up with in the Rhodesian bushveld. She spent the last ten years of her life near the sea in Port Alfred, a lovely quiet seaside town in the Eastern Cape. Many of Alvera's magnificent seascapes and dolphins were inspired by the beauty of this place. She leaves a legacy of only 150 paintings that include birds, dolphins, wildlife and flowers. She also painted some whimsical paintings that she called her "What if? "paintings, which were strongly influenced by Salvador Dali. Many of her paintings have been sold to art lovers around the world and now grace some of the most beautiful homes in the world.
