About "Whitney"

This painting titled 'Whitney', is the beginning of a series of portraits of performing artists who were caught up a rapid momentum and then because of influences of various kinds, ended their careers often tragically.
Im inspired by Whitney Houston for her remarkable talent, her dedication to her craft and she endured.
In this painting I have used delicate tonal changes but also strong contrasts indicative of the vocal range Whitney was capable of.

About Bill

I completed a fine arts degree, majoring in painting. I have taught art for a number of years and have now decided and explore avenues which have fascinated me for some time.
My work has always been of a social political nature and more recently I have become more interested in the roll of African women in their culture groups through-out Africa. They are the back bone of a society where they full fill many functions. I understand the dignity of these traditional women who depend on a living land, unthreatened by technology.
Having worked in the Middle East for some time i enjoyed the souks and market place of Africa and enjoy the vibrancy and colour of these trading places

Exhibitions

I have taken part in numerous group exhibitions including the NSA gallery in Durban with the Natal Art Teachers Visagie Gallery where I also had a one man show. I have sold paintings from the Ricmond Gallery in London where I worked for a year. More recently I have exhibited on two occasions with the Howick Arts Society in Howick.
