About "Yellow Grapes I"

This painting is a study of light observed directly.

Working from a photographic reference, the focus was on understanding how light moves through the surface of the grapes -- how it is held within the skin, softened across form, and reflected outward into the surrounding space.

Yellow pigments present a particular challenge in oil painting. They can easily become opaque or dull, losing the sense of clarity required to suggest water and translucency. In this piece, the aim was to maintain a sense of internal light, allowing each grape to hold both structure and luminosity.

Within Solar Realism, this relationship between light and form is central. The subject itself becomes secondary to the behaviour of light within it.
