About "Beach Stroll"
After a heavy storm at Pringle Bay, I saw this lone figure strolling on the beach. The beach was strewn with debris from the sea, but the air was fresh and so pure. Suddenly the sun broke through the clouds and lit Hangklip up in a golden glow and it seemed to beacon to the figure, golden days lay ahead. It was an awesome serene scene that I wanted to capture.
I work in Oils, Water Colour, and pencil, charcoal & pen & ink. Oils, pencil & ink I use as a vehicle to express something intensely, W/C, romantic or dreamy. I don't specifically confine myself to one technique, as I souly go on what the painting demands. However, I start off building up with glaze work to capture the luminous quality of light before I start building up with thick & loose brush work, depicting the textures. The choice of my theme comes from what stimulates an emotional response to a scene, reflecting what I am experiencing unconsciously at that specific time. Although I discover the connection later. For example, the Damaraland painting reflects that I experienced life in reality as harsh at that specific time, yet always there is mystic beauty.
