Throughout my art making I have always used a multitude of layers, textures and colours, although these create an interesting surface to which the viewer is drawn into, I found that the works were too “heavy”.
Day to day life holds many loaded issues, which people tend to get consumed by, not everyone, but the fun and lightheartedness has been withdrawn from some people. What my new era in art creation holds is the more delicate side to one’s daily encounters. What people normally do not take pleasure in seeing, or thinking of, the softness, one’s thoughts, the lighter side of life and the fun which can so easily be missed.
The softness of the works comes from the use of white, beautiful, crisp and clean. The simplicity of the white works perfectly with the gentle burn marks surrounding the edges of the cuts and creates a gentle abstracted edge which works beautifully with the sharper edges of the cutouts. These burn marks create a softness to some of the words used and gives the works an ethereal aspect which I like.
The works are created from abstracted shapes derived from prior images which have been digitally manipulated to create the effect and subject that I want, my thoughts and many of the aspects which I have noticed that I have missed.
Some of the works are mounted with a drop shadow to create another dimension to the works. This depth speaks of reality and the awareness that people individually operate on many different levels, but should not in effect lose sight of the softness that is around them and that what gives them character.
