About "Proteas & Roses"

First Drawing in my new God's Garden Series. God's Garden is inspired by a dream where I walked with God in a beautiful garden and I asked him why he made people so different and I woke up with the answer: "We are all just different flowers in God's Garden". To me I could interpret this in various different ways, God made us different because he loved the variety and because each one has a unique quality that makes him/her special. We all have a unique purpose in life, we can be like roses that are beautiful outside but also give off an amazing smell that can light up other people's life. Roses have many amazing purposes besides being pretty. Or we can be like a Protea, uniquely South African but with an exotic flavour. Proteas is one of my personal favourite flowers because it is intricate with amazing small little details but is also one of the flowers that can last very long.

Besides, all of our differences we also have fundamental essences that are precisely the same. We all need love, acceptance, kindness, grace and friendship. We all would love to meet our perfect partner. I believe we should embrace our difference, but also celebrate the "good" elements of unity.

About Liesel

I am a Fine Artist, based in Free State, South Africa. I specialize in realistic drawings and paintings of People, with a subtle Christian Narrative. My preferred mediums are Graphite Pencils, Soft Pastels, and Oil Paint. I work mostly from photographs, but love to do life studies when I get the opportunity.

My personal work deals with self-believe, and identity, especially regarding my daily battle as a Christian to realign myself to God's word. It is also about God's values in contrast to the World's.

I have art collectors all over South Africa, as well as overseas. In addition, I have created a wide variety of custom-made portrait commissions for customers, working mainly from photographs.
