 About Rika
Rika van Rooyen trading as Rix.
I am a versatile artist but prefer to work with acrylic concentrating on street scenes with buildings, some land and sea scapes and still lifes. My work is very impressionistic.

Inspired by bold colours I like the fusion of Africa's creative energy with European influences.
I have always been artistically creative; as an architect with design and drawing and doing sculpting, painting and pottery. I started Rix Pottery twelve years ago with a friend making and decorating designer basins. I also now sign my paintings Rix to avoid confusion.

I studied Graphic Art and Sculpting, and graduated from Cape Town University as an architect.
I undertook various study tours through Europe, America and Canada and worked on Cyprus with
Prof. Hare concerning housing for resettled Turks. I was presented with a bursary to do Post-graduate Landscape Architecture at Penn University, Philadelphia.

Influences on my work include the art of the Native American Indians and the work of Le Corbusier, Oscar Kokoschka and Skricka.
