About "The Bee"
It was a gloriously warm summer evening and the dahlias were in full flower and shining like jewels in the evening sunlight. Whilst taking a photo to try and capture the moment, happily, a little bee flew on to the flower. With the humming of the bees, the warmth of the sun and the smell of the earth it was just one of those perfect times in nature. It just had to be caught and felt completely.
Painting and drawing was first introduced to me at a young age by my father who had attended art school and also loved to paint. My first paintings followed the "old school" style where the picture was a likeness of what was visually seen. This, however, was too restrictive and at the age of 55 and semi retired I was able to set up a studio at home. This enabled me to express my feelings and love of colour more freely. Now there are not enough hours in a day to put all my ideas on canvas. Mostly my paintings start as an idea formed from nature or natural occurence but once started the colours and shapes take on a life of their own. There is nothing more exciting in the World than a blank canvas, paints and free time.
