About "The Watchful Hare in Field of Heather"

This work began with a moment of encounter.

While cycling through the nature reserve, I came across a hare standing still in the field. It was alert, aware, and clearly scanning for danger -- yet there was something in its expression that extended beyond instinct. The gaze held a kind of presence that felt difficult to define, as if something more than reaction was taking place.

I painted this piece in an attempt to understand that moment more clearly. Rather than resolving the question, the process seemed to deepen it. The expression remains suspended somewhere between awareness and reflection -- a state that feels both immediate and unknowable.

In Solar Realism, I focus on how light and structure reveal the internal life of a subject. Here, the attention rests not only on the physical form, but on the subtle tension within the animal's gaze -- the space where instinct, perception, and presence meet.

The work invites a quiet pause. Not to explain the animal, but to remain with it.
