About Janah/Susan

Janah/Susan Freemantle

I was born in the fifties, got married in the seventies, and two children, boy and girl, were born. For the greater part of their childhood, I was a "stay at home" mum.

After our children became independant, my daughter gave me a beginners fabric paint set. This was the beginning of everything and soon I experimented with oils and other mediums. With the financial support of selling hand painted T-shirts, caps, stones, shells and everything else that I could paint nature scenes on. I started art classes at Ferina Visser's art school locally in 2005, and recently attended a obsolute "mind opening" workshop, held by the renowned Louis Audie.

Being a member of both Velddrif Art and the West Coast Arts Guild, I also took part in various local exhibitions.

Living on the West Coast of South Africa for 20 years, the local way of living and the beauty of it, especially the sea in its diversity, is my biggest inspiration. I also took interest in portrait study.
