I have always been passionate about drawing, so the element of line in a painting is important to me. My drawing bias has led me to paint animals in watercolour for many years, and more recently figurative subjects in watercolour, acrylic and oil. My present work is portrait-based, looking for ways to raise the painting above a photographic representation. By using flattened peripheral shapes, arbitrary colour, textured brushstrokes or rough palette knife, I attempt to stress [0x1]the artist[0x1]s mark[0x1] without jeopardising the essence of the subject.
