This regular model created something magical with her cat like pose. As opposed to the painters directing the pose, she usually explores a few positions and we collectively decide on a pose to do. I could feel from my initial block in stage that this one would be one of the better paintings that I was going to do. The initial stages were done very abstractly with lots of drips which disappeared during the painting process.
I feel privileged to have had my passion for making art being reawakened in my early thirties. After stumbling along for a decade on my own, I happened to join the Observatory Artists[0x1] Co-operative in Cape Town for life draw every Thursday in 2009. Life draw was the catalyst for my transformation into an artist. The discipline of drawing from the model has been key to fine tuning my artistic eye. My aim is to continually improve my drawing while exploring composition, mood and atmosphere in painting. I am always pushing the abstract beauty of the composition with visible brush strokes while still developing recognizable imagery.
