About "Desert Child"
This piece is a soulful insight into a beautiful desert child about to become a woman - her innocence, and soft beauty is reflected in her eyes and her expression. It is a piece that captures the beauty of a girl in transformation into a woman - we spent three months together and she an I grew close as we developed the intricate bead work and subtle expression.
Since I was a very young girl, I have been passionately involved in art. I was trained in fine art and spent time with Tinus De Jongh in my early twenties. As a fine artist I find that I enter into a different space and time 'dimension' in which I disapear to and get my best results. I guess its kind of a meditation, but I can stay there for 10 to 12 hours on a good day! It drives my family mad - but when I am in the 'zone', I just cannot put the brush down...I find inspiration everywhere; I am driven to capture intricate and subtle facial expressions and my pieces 'come to life' over the period of painting them - they develop a personality and we work together in finishing a piece that is real to me, and displays the 'soul' of the person...I hope you enjoy the art as much as I LOVE to paint them!
