Eve on a drawer stand
About "Making Eve"
This sculpture is an exercise in honing building skills in clay and was set for my students as a project. I love the softness of the hands and the quiet of her posture. I decided not to overwork her surface but to simply build her. It made me feel like God taking clay and fashioning man. I have set her on a bureau. All my working tools and picture references used in the making of Eve are in the drawer upon which she sits.
I am largely inspired by the natural world we live in, and the colour and content of my work reflects this. The constant play of light and shadow around us is visible in my work. I sculpt with light as a tool; reading the shadows that arise from the fall of light on a sculpted line. Life and its sights are a constant marvel to me. I like to find beauty and if I don't see it in something to recreate it with beauty.
