Mermaid is based loosely on a photography by Zena Holloway, UK Underwater Fashion Photographer. I have a big love for underwater images, because of the flowing lines and color variations.
Mermaid is my second underwater oil painting. The first one was a photo-realism collage painting that I did in my second year at Art School. What I love about this painting is the flowing lines of the hair, the play of light and dark. Originally the painting was a semi-nude, but I changed it to add more texture to the skin and make the figure more fantasy-like.
The technique is a combination between palet work "impasto" and an age old technique called "scumbily". It is quite a striking painting and I have received many compliments from peers and public alike. Because of its multicolor variations, it would work lovely in a very neutral home. Ideally a beach house or a teenage girl's room.

I am a Fine Artist, based in Free State, South Africa. I specialize in realistic drawings and paintings of People, with a subtle Christian Narrative. My preferred mediums are Graphite Pencils, Soft Pastels, and Oil Paint. I work mostly from photographs, but love to do life studies when I get the opportunity.
My personal work deals with self-believe, and identity, especially regarding my daily battle as a Christian to realign myself to God's word. It is also about God's values in contrast to the World's.
I have art collectors all over South Africa, as well as overseas. In addition, I have created a wide variety of custom-made portrait commissions for customers, working mainly from photographs.
