My medium of choice is oil paint and charcoal and my subject of choice is people, especially portraits. I find nothing more interesting, challenging and satisfying than translating a moment or idea onto an expression on a body or a face. This is probably the main reason that I like all my work to have an element of realism to it. It only needs a small element but I can’t finish a piece of work until it’s there. Unless the image specifically calls for something else, I prefer to work with a pallet made up of warmer, especially earth tone colours. I like to keep all colours to a minimum and toned down (or even monotone) to put emphasis on the shape of the subject and it’s interaction with the space it occupies on the canvas or paper.
