About Sue

Sue Tatham-van Niekerk

This experienced artist has achieved significant artistic recognition, notably graduation with distinctions, selection for the prestigious Cape Town Triennial, residency in Paris, Atelier, in Cité Internationale des Arts, and first prize, New Signatures Award, SAAA. Portraits and figures are her speciality. Her work is contemporary, provocative and versatile, and ranges from abstraction to expressionism, through to formal realism. Symbols of women and feminine archetypes form a central recurrant theme, further inspired by African and European mythology, natural geometry and her favourite teacher, nature. As an experienced lecturer who challenges individuality and creativity, she loves teaching art and design. She manages her own studio, workshops and art school; and has trained and inspired many who have gone on to become great talents of note.
