About "Sunrise Over the Ganges"

when we went to India in 2006 for the first time as we landed in New Delhi the country felt like home. We loved every minute of our stay. The most overwhelming experience was Varanasi, the holy city. To me it felt quite cruel and was claustrophobic in sound, sight and smell. And yet the city haunts one. It is also called the "city of light" and when I looked back at the photos which we took, each and every photo was infused with the ethereal light which characterises the city.

About Margi

Margi Blewett

Winner of South African Artists Amateur Award for Watercolours 1985 and 1995.
Trained at Michaelis School of Fine Art and Ruth Prowse School of Art
All my life I have drawn and painted. It is an integral part of me and inseparable from the inner me. I have always loved the outdoors and the ever changing light informing the landscape. The restless sea beating at the shore as the waves throw themselves ever higher up the sand, trying to become earthbound. The ancient stillness of Namibia, the timeless kaleidoscope that is India. And, of course, South Africa slowly emerging from its dark past. If you keep very still you can hear the countryside singing that at last it is free.
I try to use my paintings to reflect the hopes and love for life that is so much a part of the human soul. I invite all who view these works to open their souls and listen to the earth sing.
May all who see these paintings derive some pleasure and peace from them and may they leave this site happier than they entered it, Namaste, Margi
