About "The Christ"
I was inspired by the fact that Jesus overcame death on a cross-one of the cruellest ways to die humanly immaginable and also that a German business person asked me to paint the Christ in such a way that one should understand that there is hope, even in death.I studied the classic paintings and scetches of Raphael and others and meditated a lot while painting. It's been one of the most challenging topics I've ever painted. It was super personal and both frightening and rewarding, and I went through every mood imagineable before finally finishing it.
About Ben van Eck
I'm inspired by colour, spaces, contrasts, in nature, in patterns and shapes and sizes. I enjoy the natural elements, the seasons and nature itself. I love sunrises and sunsets and wide open spaces, fields and the countryside. I want to tell the world that there is hope and love in abundance if we open our eyes and ears and hearts to receive it. I have been enjoying painting and drawing pictures even from before school and once got a hiding as a kid from my dad for drawing pictures on the kitchen wall tiles with a blue marker.
