About "Aloe Alure"
The Aloe symbolizes to me a person that is hardy and steadfast that will bloom no matter what. The African skies with its aray of colors embraces this sentiment fully, and that is what I portray in these Aloe studies

About Miq
Artist died March 2024
The Expressionist MIQRA ORMANDE MILES or better known as Miq Miles was born on the 8th of June 1957 in Pietersburg now known as Polokwane in the Northern Province of South Africa. Internationally, Miq was renowned for her use of vibrant colour, sculpting, and form, and has put her own stamp on abstract Expression. Her art, which revealed the universal beauty of life as a whole, is reminiscent of the work done by the well-known artist, Irma Stern. Miq mirrored the character of the expressionist in her re-shaping of reality in an aesthetically pleasing way, without sacrificing form and content. Nature features heavily in her work, and her closeness and understanding of her subject's nuances was immediately obvious. Using large colourful canvases, she achieves a 3-D effect by 'sculpting' the paint in a raised form to create unique and enduring art. Not confined to abstract or more realistic expressionist paintings, it was her skill as a colourist and her application of shape, form, light and value that set her apart.
The blasting reds, oranges and yellows, the velvety blacks, the flowing arrangement of form all reflect life and landscapes in all its glory, which results in a composition about the universal beauty of life in its whole.
Her long brush strokes mark her as an expressionist; therefore, her work can be summed up by the following quote from Kasimir Edschmid: "The Expressionist does not look, he sees" The expressionist MIQRA ORMANDE MILES or better known as Miq Miles, was born on the 8th of June 1957 in Pietersburg, also known as Polokwane, in the Northern Province of South Africa. Her work is sought after by discerning art connoisseurs. She was internationally known and has sold paintings to Galleries and buyers in Europe, Cyprus, Scotland, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, Australasia, China, England and the Americas. She has painted since a very early age; her first painting sold at the age of 10; a multi-media painting of a bunch of Sweet Pea flowers in her well-known bright colours. She is a well-known Expressionist artist who works in a variety of media. Expressionism as an artistic style is a style in which the artist seeks to depict not objective reality but rather the subjective emotions and responses that objects and events arouse in them. She accomplished her aim through distortion, exaggeration, primitivism, and fantasy and through the vivid, jarring, violent, or dynamic application of formal elements such as colour, without losing the aesthetic appeal of her subject. In a broader sense, Expressionism is one of the main currents of modern art Miq has had 80 Solo Exhibitions since 1971. Her first work went on exhibition at the age of 14 and is still shown as part of the Exhibition of the Pietersburg High Art Exhibition. She lived in Polokwane and had exhibitions worldwide.
