I was born in 1971 and spent my formative years in the Retreat area, which is a suburb of Cape Town.
From a very early age I developed a great love and fascination for the arts. As a child I learnt to draw and paint by studying other artworks which I've found mostly in my fairytale story books - and later by visiting galleries and by browsing the internet. My late grandfather was my greatest inspiration. He was able to create functional works of art by using waste material, such as driftwood, pieces of zinc metal or wood.
When starting a new piece, the intent was to always create a piece as near to life as possible. My favourite subjects to sketch was the celebrities of the time, in the 1980's - Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Tina Turner, among others.
By the time that I reached the age of 9, I had already entered my first watercolour painting for a school competition. This competition not only inspired me to continue with my passion for painting but to also broaden my interest in the arts to other forms of painting as well. As I grew older my skills became more prominent in my expressions of painting, mostly of wildlife and especially in pencil and watercolours.
Over the years I have come to realise that working with acrylics provides me with the greatest joys in producing my art. Although I can only describe my art style as realistic, I do sometimes like to add an element of abstract art or mixed media to my work.
My passion for my work is visible in my pieces and I am happy to display them as they reflect a part of me that can only be seen on canvas.
