About Avril

During the past few years I have created artworks that express a theme of Women in Africa. There are pastels and paintings in oil depicting local people in rural landscapes, and two sculptures in the direct plaster medium. Some works include animals with symbolic meaning.
Interior 1 is my latest painting, the first of two canvasses to describe a situation that is contemporary and practical. I have used an illustrative quality to animate the composition. People interact in the complex, perspective design where implied movement is an essential feature to communicate change. It is my intention to evoke multi-layered perceptions in a contemplative mood.
The inspiration for my images originates from my interest in personalities. These works celebrate consciousness between people in our diverse society. My overall vision is to explore the links that unite human beings, and work towards understanding human nature and our relationship to the natural world.
