About "You Found Me in the Midst of Deep Waters"

Life cannot come from me because I am birthed in brokenness and sin.

I have to dive deep, beyond my own capabilities. I have to swim where I cannot stand, deep dark black waters. Only when I give up when I blow out my breath can I take in the breath of life. I die and then I live!

Many cultures associate the butterfly with our souls. The Christian religion sees the butterfly as a symbol of resurrection. Around the world, people view the butterfly as representing endurance, change, hope, and life. Also, if the butterfly is a symbol of a coming change or transformation, its symbolism depends on the colour of this butterfly.

Gold symbolises the purity of the spiritual aspect of "All That Is". It is symbolic of spirituality and development in the realm of complete understanding, allowing one to both attain and maintain communion with the source of all being. Gold has been called "the master healer".

Blue is the third primary colour. It spiritually signifies the Healing Power of God. It is the most sublime subject and colour which represents, biblically, the Word of God. ... The very fact that the Sky is blue stands for the presence of God. Blue also represents meanings of depth, trust, loyalty, sincerity, wisdom, confidence, stability, faith, heaven, and intelligence.

Water popularly represents life. It can be associated with birth, fertility, and refreshment. In a Christian context, water has many correlations. ... Christians are baptized with or in water, symbolizing a purification of the soul, and admission into the faith.

How I Create

The brightness of oils is mixed with the soft translucency of encaustics (wax), and creates hidden messages and layers below. The layering gives the work a softness and richness that invites the viewer to look closer and to experience the satin-smooth surface through touch. The wax layers get more and more translucent through the warmth emanating from the exploring human hand. The viewer becomes a part of the slow change and clarity of the painting...as if the message is rising from the depth of the hidden soul to the surface of the mind. There is a strange ethereal beauty to these paintings, as if made from air.
