About Steve
South African born Steve Mandy, has been painting since 2000. Started out under the tutelage of Kay Smart, influenced locally by John Smith, Pascal Chandler, favorite international artists Trozzi and Jack Vettriano.
Mandy[0x1]s exhibition [0x1]Pre-Intervention[0x1] at ArtSpace, Durban (2008), dealt with the naive structure of an untutored artist prior to the intervention of academic influence, with emphasis on creating images with visual value only.
Having spent the last two years studying Fine Art at Durban University of Technology, he discovered (amongst other things) that art can only be personal. Its value is a perception, its appeal based on visual appearance and depth of truth.
Mandy is also well entrenched in the South African fashion scene, having painted directly onto clothing to help secure the coveted J&B Met Fashion title 2006 and 2007 and being involved with Durban Fashion Week 2006/7 Johannesburg Fashion week 2007. He has appeared on Top Billing twice, Selamatunzi and Studio 53 Magazine programs in relation to fashion.
His favorite playground is oil applied by pallet knife, but also enjoys ink, pastels and Acrylics.
