About "Struisbaai"

My mother lives at Struisbaai so I practically grew up there. The coloured fishermen community is such a vibrant culture, I enjoy watching them and listening to how they communicate.
The wood I used is old railway sleepers, the stone by the seaside is marble and the stone on the cottages come from Kassiesbaai.

About Ilse

I grew up at Oudtshoorn and visiting Struisbaai in South-Africa on a regular basis. Exploring was my passion and growing up I learned to keep myself busy studying rock pools, collecting rocks, shells, studying flowers in the veld,etc. I always used these to stick into pretty pictures.

I always felt there was something special for me and after praying God showed me in a dream what to do. I love the freedom that I find in my art!

I have been a teacher since 1985 and loving it! With taking children into the veld at my outdoor club, I often feel the urge to express the vibrant colours and beauty of nature in a creative way. The figures that is often seen in my pictures express the energy of the children.

I enjoy using bright colours and lively figures. My love for animals and the creation are strongly presented in my pictures.

I thank God for my creativity. He is the ultimate artist!
